Manitoulin Health Centre Welcomes Co-op Student Georgia Roy

LITTLE CURRENT– September 2025 – Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is pleased to welcome Manitoulin Secondary School student Georgia Roy as a co-op student for the fall semester, running from September through January.

Georgia was selected following a competitive application and screening process. Her placement is designed to give secondary school students valuable, hands-on experience across a variety of healthcare departments. Throughout her rotation, she will gain exposure to the day-to-day operations of a rural hospital while developing skills and exploring potential career paths in healthcare.

Her semester-long placement will include rotations in:

  • Laboratory Services & Diagnostic Imaging
  • Food Services, Diabetes Training & Care
  • Centre, and In-Patient Training
  • Pharmacy & Clinical Transformation
  • Nursing
  • Physiotherapy

“We are excited to revive this program and once again open our doors to secondary students,” said Paula Fields, President & CEO of MHC. “Providing opportunities like this helps build confidence, inspire future careers, and strengthens the long-term sustainability of healthcare on Manitoulin Island. We look forward to supporting Georgia on her learning journey and welcoming more students in the future.”

Looking ahead, MHC hopes to expand the program by welcoming a second co-op student in semester two, while also creating additional student shadowing opportunities for high school learners across Manitoulin Island who are considering a future in healthcare.

By welcoming students like Georgia, MHC is not only investing in their future but also strengthening the future of healthcare on Manitoulin Island. Pictured is Georgia Roy with MHC staff members, Julie Byers and Jenna Wood.
