Manitoulin Health Centre Announces Board Leadership Transition

Manitoulin Island, ON – Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Nadorozny as Chair of its Board of Directors. Doug succeeds Dennis McGregor, who has served as Chair for the past five years and will continue to support the Board in his new role as Vice-Chair.

The leadership transition reflects MHC's ongoing commitment to strong governance, collaborative leadership, and exceptional healthcare for the residents and visitors of Manitoulin Island.

Doug joined the MHC Board of Directors in November 2023 and has served as a member of the Governance Committee. He currently serves as Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Aurora and brings decades of executive leadership experience in municipal government, business, and governance.

Prior to joining the Town of Aurora in 2016, Doug held several senior leadership positions with the City of Greater Sudbury, including General Manager of Growth and Development and Chief Administrative Officer. Before entering municipal government, he successfully founded and operated several technology companies before their acquisition by a publicly traded organization.

A lifelong advocate for strong governance and community service, Doug holds a Master of Business Administration from Laurentian University and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors after completing the Director Education Program at the University of Toronto. His extensive governance experience includes serving as a Director of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), Chair of the Laurentian Hospital Foundation, and more than 20 years on the Board of Thorneloe University, where he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Sacred Letters.

Born and raised in Sudbury, Doug has enjoyed a longstanding connection to Manitoulin Island. He and his wife, Sharon, recently made Providence Bay their permanent home after spending over 30 years enjoying the Island with their family.

"It is an honour to serve as Chair of the Manitoulin Health Centre Board of Directors. I look forward to working alongside my fellow Board members, leadership, physicians, staff, volunteers, and our communities as we continue strengthening healthcare across Manitoulin Island," said Nadorozny.

President and CEO Paula Fields welcomed Doug to his new role while recognizing the important contributions of both Board leaders. "Doug brings exceptional executive leadership, governance expertise, and a deep commitment to community service. His collaborative leadership style, strategic vision, and passion for Manitoulin Island will be invaluable as we continue advancing our strategic priorities and delivering exceptional healthcare close to home. At the same time, we are incredibly grateful to Dennis for his outstanding leadership as Board Chair over the past five years. His dedication and advocacy have helped position Manitoulin Health Centre for continued success, and we are pleased that he will continue to serve as Vice-Chair, providing valuable continuity and mentorship during this transition."

As Doug assumes the role of Chair, Dennis McGregor transitions to Vice-Chair following nearly a decade of service on the Board of Directors, including five years as Chair.

Since joining the Board in 2015, Dennis has been a passionate advocate for rural healthcare and a strong champion for the communities of Manitoulin Island. Throughout his tenure, he has promoted equitable funding for rural hospitals, supported physician recruitment and fundraising initiatives, and reinforced the importance of collaboration among healthcare partners, municipalities, volunteers, and community members.

Known for his thoughtful leadership, unwavering commitment to good governance, and meticulous attention to detail, Dennis has helped strengthen the organization while fostering accountability, transparency, and strategic decision-making.

"Serving as Chair of the Manitoulin Health Centre Board has been a tremendous honour," said McGregor. "I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and grateful for the dedication of our Board members, leadership team, physicians, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. I look forward to supporting Doug and continuing to serve the organization as Vice-Chair as we work together to strengthen healthcare for the people of Manitoulin Island."

Together, Doug and Dennis will continue to provide strong governance and strategic leadership as Manitoulin Health Centre advances its mission of delivering exceptional, patient-centred healthcare close to home.
