MANITOULIN ISLAND, ON – Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is proud to celebrate passionate supporter of rural healthcare, Peter Carter, whose dedication and commitment to local healthcare have resulted in an incredible $12,500 contribution to the Vital Visions Campaign.
Peter's fundraising efforts were achieved through his participation in the Perth 700, an annual cycling event that brings together riders and supporters from across the region in support of charitable causes. This year's event was a tremendous success, with participants collectively raising just over $75,000 for 18 charities.
In addition to the impressive fundraising results, participants enjoyed a memorable week of cycling through scenic countryside, overcoming a variety of weather conditions, and building the camaraderie that makes the Perth 700 such a special event.
Peter's contribution will directly support Manitoulin Health Centre's Vital Visions Campaign, which is working toward a goal of $250,000 to purchase new ultrasound equipment. This investment will enhance diagnostic capabilities, improve patient care, and help ensure residents can continue to access quality healthcare services close to home.
"Peter's commitment is a wonderful example of how one person can inspire an entire community," said Paula Fields, President and CEO of Manitoulin Health Centre. "Healthcare fundraising succeeds because of individuals like Peter who are willing to champion a cause and bring others alongside them. We are incredibly grateful for his dedication, the generosity of everyone who supported him, and the broader spirit of community that made this achievement possible. Community-driven initiatives such as this are essential to helping us acquire the equipment and technology needed to provide exceptional care for our patients."
The Vital Visions Campaign continues to demonstrate the power of grassroots fundraising and community engagement. Every donation, fundraiser, event, and act of support brings Manitoulin Health Centre closer to its goal and helps ensure local residents have access to modern healthcare equipment and services.
Reflecting on the experience, Carter hopes his journey will inspire others to get involved.
"The Perth 700 was an incredible experience," said Carter. "It challenged me, connected me with like-minded people, and allowed me to support a cause that is incredibly important to our community. I would love to see more people from Manitoulin join me in future rides. My goal is to recruit at least three more riders to join me so we can ride together and collectively raise funds in support of MHC. If anyone is interested in learning more about the event or becoming part of the team, I encourage them to reach out. Together, we can make an even bigger impact." Organizers have already confirmed that the 2027 Perth 700 will take place June 6–12, 2027, providing another opportunity for cyclists to support important charitable causes while participating in this unique fundraising event
Fields added that Peter's efforts are a shining example of the community spirit that has long supported healthcare on Manitoulin Island.
"Peter's success reminds us that meaningful change happens when communities come together," said Fields. "Whether it's hosting an event, making a donation, volunteering time, or participating in a challenge like the Perth 700, every contribution helps strengthen healthcare services for our residents and families."
Manitoulin Health Centre extends its sincere appreciation to Peter Carter, everyone who contributed to his fundraising efforts, and all those who continue to support the Vital Visions Campaign.
Together, community champions like Peter are helping build a healthier future for Manitoulin Island.
