The goal of the obstetrics service at Manitoulin Health Centre is to provide safe, family-centered care during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period.

Manitoulin Health Centre delivers low risk, full term, single pregnancies.

Physicians from the Northeastern Manitoulin Family Health Team and a Midwife from Manitoulin Midwifery assist the patient with the birthing process. For more information on  prenatal and postnatal care and suggestions for what to bring to hospital, visit the  Manitoulin Maternity Care site  www.manitoulinmaternity.com.

We provide family-centred care in a comfortable "care by parent" setting.  Sleep chairs are available in the post-partum room to accommodate one support person for an overnight stay.

Manitoulin Health Centre encourages mothers to exclusively breastfeed for at least the first 6 months, unless supplements are medically necessary. This is in keeping with the World Health Organization’s Baby-Friendly practices. Staff members are trained to support mothers with their feeding choice. Formula is only provided when medically necessary.
