Laboratory

Laboratory tests are essential to your health. They are an important way for your health care provider to determine what’s going on inside your body.

The work done by the staff at Manitoulin Health Centre Laboratory enables diagnosis and treatment of your medical condition. MHC Laboratory provides community and hospital diagnostic services to physicians and patients on Manitoulin Island and the surrounding areas.

Appointments

Appointments are required for all laboratory collections.  

Online Booking

An appointment can be self-booked online through CareDove for both Little Current and Mindemoya locations.

Registration

A requisition must be provided to the lab when you arrive for an appointment.
 

Special Considerations for Lab Bookings 

Overnight Fasting Required for the following:

• Glucose Fasting
• Glucose Tolerance Test GTT/75 GTT/OGT
• Note: 50g Glucose for Gestational Diabetes no fasting required
• Lipid/ Cholesterol Profile (we also offer non-fasting lipid profile)
• C-peptide
• Growth Hormone  GH
• Bile Acids

Cortisol AM:

• Book at 8 AM only

Flow Cytometry (CD4/CD8):

• Book before 9 AM for Little Current and before 8:20 AM Mindemoya

HLA B27:

• Monday to Wednesday before 9 AM for Little Current and before 8:20 AM Mindemoya

Drop off only does not require appointment:

• e.g. Urine, Sputum, Stool sample

Patients for Vitamin D and Celiac testing are referred to Life Labs
 

Test Preparation 

Please follow any preparations as advised by your physician (i.e. fasting). If you have any questions, please contact the laboratory.
 

Requisitions

If your health care provider has given you a requisition for testing you must bring it with you, if your requisition has been faxed to the hospital, it will be available at the admitting desk.
