Temporary Closure of Mindemoya Hospital and Emergency Department Effective Immediately Due to Community Infrastructure Issue (Code Grey)

Mindemoya, ON – Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is advising the community that the Mindemoya Hospital site including the emergency department is temporarily closed effective immediately due to a community flood-related infrastructure issue impacting water and sewer services. 

In consultation with Public Health, this decision has been made to ensure the health and safety of patients, staff, and the community remain our top priority. Despite all reasonable efforts to maintain operations, current conditions do not support the safe delivery of care.

All inpatients are being safely transferred to alternative nearby hospital care locations, and patient families are being notified directly.

The Mindemoya Emergency Department will close beginning:

• April 15th, 2026, at 2:55 pm and remain closed until infrastructure services are restored and it is safe to resume normal operations. 
  
  

In the meantime, the Little Current MHC emergency site will be open, but we urgently ask that you:

• You to reconsider coming for non-urgent concerns
• Use alternative care options where possible

Important Information for the Public:

• For medical emergencies, please call 9-1-1. Ambulances will be redirected to the nearest available hospitals.
• Residents requiring emergency care are asked to go to:
  • Little Current Site – Manitoulin Health Centre
  • Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre
  • Health Sciences North (Sudbury)

Manitoulin Health Centre is actively working with the Municipality of Central Manitoulin, Ontario Health, regional partners, and local teams to resolve the infrastructure issue and safely reopen the site as soon as possible.
