Honouring Culture Through Care: Weekly Indigenous Meals at MHC

Manitoulin Health Centre is grateful to Noojmowin Teg's food as medicine program which allows us to serve culturally significant foods weekly to inpatients at our hospital.

Noojmowin teg is currently procuring meals created by local Indigenous chef Hiawatha Osawamick. These meals reflect culturally significant ingredients that change regularly based on the season and patient feedback. Patients are provided a menu card created by Nooj which allows meal recipients to scan a QR code to share their feedback about the meals.

In recognition of National Indigenous peoples day, this week's meal was  Bison Cabbage rolls with vegetables, maple butter and bannock.

MHC would like to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis people of Canada.
