POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Trade Technician Assistant provides a safe, comfortable environment for all patients, staff and visitors by assisting with ensuring the proper operation of all physical plant buildings, equipment and systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and care for hospital grounds
- Cut and water lawns, weed flower beds and trim hedges
- Remove snow and ice from walkways, stairs and entranceways including the heliport area to ensure that all are in a safe condition
- Apply ice pellets or sand as required
- Light painting and repairs
- Other duties as assigned
- Perform duties as part of the fire response team
- Perform/maintain daily logs and checklists
- Assist outside contractors in the repair/replacement of equipment
- Assist the maintenance team as required
- Maintain and care of seasonal outdoor equipment
- Maintain inventory

- Use and wear equipment and protective devices that are provided
- Report to the supervisor absent or defective equipment or protective devices
- Report the existence of hazards to the supervisor
- Not remove or make ineffective any protective devices without providing an adequate temporary protective device
- Operate equipment in a safe manner
- Not engage in horseplay
- Be familiar with procedures to be carried out in the event of a disaster (Emergency Measures Plans)

- Proficiency in computer software applications: Microsoft Outlook, Surge policy & Procedures and Learning Management System

- Proficiency in the operation of general power tools and hand tools
- WHIMIS
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications, Experience, Licensure):
Required:
- Valid Class G driver’s license
- Partial Secondary school (Grade 10)
Preferred:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Experience in operating outdoor power equipment (snowblower, tractor, lawn care etc.)
- Light carpentry skills
