THE OPPORTUNITY:
Manitoulin Health Centre is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to champion the physician and professional staff recruitment, and retention needs of the Manitoulin Region Family Health Teams, Medical Clinics, and Manitoulin Health Centre. The Recruiter plays a critical role in ensuring Manitoulin Island attracts and retains a full complement of physicians and professional staff for our population. Professional staff include physicians and nurse practitioners.
The Physician Recruiter will develop and execute recruitment plans and retention initiatives. They will network through agency contacts, association membership, and employees, and will coordinate/implement college/university initiatives. The Physician Recruiter will complete administrative duties and record keeping.

JOB DUTIES:
- Identifies and sources potential candidates using a variety of creative and effective recruitment methods/platforms – advertising, website, word of mouth, information, etc.
- Research, plans and coordinates and attends job fairs, conferences, workshops, and other physician recruitment opportunities. Research association publications, web sites and other appropriate resources on which to post physician opportunities/vacancies.
- Develops relationships with residency programs.
- Assists in the development of recruitment/marketing materials/strategies, such as banners, posters, social media, website, HFO postings, and other sites.
- Connect with area schools (high schools/secondary/medical) to promote rural health professional careers.
- Directs, organizes, and coordinates all aspects of potential candidate itineraries, agendas and site visits including ensuring travel and accommodations are booked; arrange for the pick-up and welcoming of newly arriving clinicians; organize site & departmental visits; connect with area physicians, arrange events/activities, and assists with spouse or family adjustment/requirements.
- Maintains a shared candidate tracking spreadsheet/database reflecting documentation of positions open, interviews scheduled, conversations had, offers made or not made, offers accepted or not accepted, reasons for declined offers, etc. Regular follow-up with all candidates and referring parties in a timely manner. Maintain communication with potential and ongoing locums and residents.
- Stays up to date on regional and national physician and professional staff hiring trends and practices; research competitor’s activities to keep informed of changes impacting ability to recruit and retain physicians.
- Works collaboratively with Manitoulin Directors and the Community Recruitment & Retention Committee and coordinate committee meetings, initiatives.
- Reports regularly to various Directors and Physician Groups, to keep them up to date on recruitment/retention initiatives and opportunities.
- Assists with the preparation and submission of funding requests and reports related to Recruitment & Retention.
- All other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The successful candidate will reside in and have a strong familiarity with the Manitoulin district.
- Diploma/Degree in Business (or in a relevant field) specializing in Marketing, Communication, or Human Resource Management
- Minimum 2 years of experience in recruiting (preferably experience in health care field and/or physicians)
- Innovative thinking, able to use and develop new sources for recruitment.
- Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, medical professionals, clinic administrators/managers, educational institutions, and employees.
- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong customer/client service orientation, positive attitude, highly self-motivated and self-directed.
- Solid interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with medical and non-medical staff, and public and external agencies.
- Ability to develop alternative solutions to problems; comparing and analyzing data; preparing clear, concise, thorough, meaningful, and grammatically correct written reports, letters, memoranda, and other documents.
- Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, schedule, coordinate and make revisions relating to assigned tasks.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage a large workload, sometimes within tight deadlines.
- Skills in gathering and interpreting data
- Ability to attend and conduct job recruitment fairs.
- Valid Ontario G driver’s license
- Ability to perform the requirements of the role on a regular basis.
